Welcome to my class!!!

I think we're going to have a great year! First thing, I guess I should introduce myself. My name is Selena Price. I teach 7th grade English/Language Arts at Clanton Middle
School. I also help direct the CMS Chorus. This is my ninth year here at CMS. In my time here, I have served as a sponsor for the yearbook, school newspaper, Scholars Bowl team, FCS, and Veterans Day choir and have served as one of the school technology coordinators. I am quite fabulous and hilarious, so in my class--as long as my students can handle it--we try to have fun while we learn.

So, who is Mrs. Price? Where did this lady even come from? I was born and raised in Thorsby, AL, as Selena Short and graduated as valedictorian from Thorsby High School in 2003. I went on to the University of Montevallo where I graduated with my Bachelors of Arts degree in English with a minor in music in 2007 and my Masters degree in Education in 2008. While in school, I had opportunities to do observations at Oak Mountain Middle School, Montevallo High School, and Thorsby High School. I did my student teaching at Chilton County High School. While in high school myself, I worked for my daddy's software business, Pencilpoint Software, and worked at Hayes Drug Store in Jemison. During college I worked at Carmichael Library on campus and substitute taught in different schools around Chilton County. Since beginning teaching, I also served as minister of music and interim minister of music at a couple of local churches. I have been an active member of my community all my life, performing in civic and church choirs around the county and volunteering my time to various non-profit organizations whenever I could help those in need.

I love to read, talk, and sing, so teaching allows me to at least do two of those things (sometimes all three!). : ) I am married to Thad Price. We live in Thorsby with our little
girl, Kayliana, our basset hound, Gravy, our hermit crab, Kirk, and our former class pet, Bert (Kayliana has laid claim on him for now, but I have hopes of one day returning him
to his full audience of 7th graders.). Jesus is my best buddy and without Him I'd be nothing. I love Him, my husband, my baby, my family, my friends, my students, and the fun
little world in which I reside.

I try to live my life as an example of Godly love to others. Middle school is a tumultuous time for many kids, so I try to be a good role model, a listening ear, and an advocate for my students. Parents are welcome to send me an email to check in or call the school to set up a time to meet with me. I am always willing to go the extra mile to help any student who is really trying to succeed, so please ask for help when it is needed. :)
